BRAINSTORMING

Brainstorming is an individual or group activity to generate ideas without any restrictions in order to solve a problem or explore on a topic. This activity helps the individual or team to think freely and develop innovative ideas or solutions.

Brainstorming, in simple words, is solving a problem within a short duration through inputs and thoughts from diverse sources / persons. It can happen in a family atmosphere or among friends or in an enterprise, etc. The random ideas put forward can form the basis for starting a new proposal, a new fun activity, etc. Instead of resorting to conventional thinking, the participants could spur their imagination and creativity and come out with novel, productive suggestions.

How to make a Brainstorming session fruitful?

• Initially, float out a few ideas in your friend's circle or a comfortable group.

• Give the purpose of the event and time-limit within which new ideas or suggestions are to be given.

• Set SMART goals which are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound objectives.

• A moderator can note down the points with a neutral mindset.

• Round robin technique helps to elicit points in a systematic circle from Individual participants

• With technological advancement, brainstorming ideas can be collected through online or hybrid methods also.

Example:

You are in-charge of a cultural event in your college. How would you have a brainstorming Session?

1. Representatives of different clubs and associations gather in an informal setting - maybe a classroom or the playground.

2. The purpose for the discussion is floated and each one is given their turn to speak out his / her thought.

3. One can jot down the points on a board or a note pad so that mind mapping can be done.

4. SWOT analysis can be initiated and noted.

5. Action plan can be jumpstarted.
