Redundant Groups

A group whose 1's are all overlapped by other groups is called a redundant group.
REDUNDANT GROUPS
A
group whose 1's are all overlapped by other groups is called a redundant group.
Suppose
we have a redundant group as shown in Fig.2.24
The
Boolean equation is
Note
that 1's in the horizontal pair is completely overlapped by the other pairs.
The
inner pair (horizontal pair) is a redundant pair and can be eliminated to get
the simpler equation

So,
it is important to eliminate redundant groups if they exist.
