derived an expression for the energy distribution, with the following
assumptions.
(i)
A black body radiator contains electrons (or) so called simple harmonic
oscillators, which are capable of vibrating with all possible frequencies.
(ii)
The frequency of radiation emitted by an oscillator is the same as that of the
frequency of its vibration.
(iii)
The oscillators (electrons) radiate energy in a discrete manner and not in a
continuous manner.
(iv)
The oscillators exchange energy in the form of either absorption or emission
within the surroundings in terms of quanta of magnitude 'hv' as shown in Fig. 7.3.
(i.e.,) E = nhv
where
n = 0, 1, 2, 3 .... r

This
implies that the exchange of energy will not take place continuously but are
limited to a dicrete set of values say 0,hv,
2hv, 3hv, 4hv, .... rhv.
(or)
0, E, 2E, 3E, ... rE, for r‒oscillators.
