PROPERTIES OF QUANTUM GATES

1. Reversible

Unlike classical gates, every quantum gate must be reversible (no information is lost).

2. Represented by Matrices

Each gate corresponds to a unitary matrix (a special type of matrix that preserves probability).

3. Act on Qubits

• 1‒qubit gates → 2×2 matrices

• 2‒qubit gates → 4×4 matrices

• 3‒qubit gates → 8×8 matrices

...and so on.

4. Enable Quantum Features

Quantum gates allow:

• superposition (Hadamard gate)

• entanglement (CNOT gate)

• quantum phase shifts (Z, S, T gates)

• qubit rotations (Rx, Ry, Rz gates)
