INTRODUCTION

 

Motion

We know motion is nothing but movement of an object (or) particle. This movement is of two kinds viz.

1. Object that is moving from a fixed place.

Examples: Electron vibrating in an atom, vibrating violin string, oscillating pendulum etc., and

2. Object that actually moves from one place to another.

Examples: Ocean waves rolling towards the beach, Electron beam moving as a wave, A ball moving in the ground etc.

 

Types of Motion

Based on the motion of the physical bodies, it can be classified into two types viz.

 

1. Translational motion, in which the motion of the body moves linearly with time.

Examples: Train moving in a track, Rocket launching etc.

 

2. Rotational (or) Oscillatory motion, in which the motion of the body repeat itself after regular interval of Time.

Examples: Bob moving in a pendulum clock, Beating of heart, Movement of Earth around the Sun, vibration of electrons, movement of light in Laser etc.
