Rotor Current in Three Phase Induction Motor

The rotor is assumed to be star connected wound type.

 

ROTOR CURRENT

 

Fig. 5.12 shows the circuit of 3‒phase induction motor at any slip 's'. The rotor is assumed to be star connected wound type. Assume that rotor emf/phase and rotor reactance/phase are sE2 and sX2 respectively. The rotor resistance/phase is R2. It is independent of frequency and therefore, does not depend upon slip.

Similarly in stator side, the stator winding resistance and inductance are R1 and X1.

Now we will consider only one phase as the conditions in the other two phases, are similar.



At standstill

Fig. (5.13) shows one phase of rotor circuit at standstill condition.

Rotor current/phase,

 I2 = E2 / Z2 = E2 / √(R22 + X22)


Rotor power factor

cos ϕ2 = R2 / Z2 = R2 / √(R22 + X22)

When running at slip 's'

Rotor current/phase,

I2 = sE2 / Z'2

I2 = sE2 / √(R22 + (sX2)2)

Rotor power‒factor, cos ϕ2 = R2 / Z2'

cos ϕ2 = R2 / √(R22 + (sX2)2)
