Let, Tg be the gross‒torque developed by the motor in N‒m and N, the speed of the rotor in rpm.

Gross rotor output = 2πΝΤg / 60 watts               ……..(5.22)

If there were no copper losses in the rotor, the output would equal rotor input and the motor would run at synchronous speed, NS.

Rotor input = 2πNSTg / 60 Watts                 …………(5.23)

Rotor input = Rotor output + Rotor Cu loss

Rotor Cu loss = Rotor input ‒ Rotor output

Rotor Cu loss = 2πTg/60 (NS‒N)                …………(5.24)

Eqn (5.24) divided by eqn (5.23),

Rotor Cu loss / Rotor input  = (Ns‒N)/NS = s

Rotor Cu loss = s × Rotor input            ... (5.25)

Gross rotor output, Pm = Rotor input ‒ Rotor Cu loss

= Rotor input ‒ (s × Rotor input)    …………(5.26)

Pm = Rotor input × (1 − s)

Eqn (5.26) divided by Eqn (5.23),

Gross rotor output / Rotor input = 1‒s = N / NS

Eqn (5.24) divided by Eqn (5.26)

Rotor Cu loss / Gross rotor output =  s / 1‒s             …….. (5.28)
