Question: Differentiate between between N‒channel and P‒channel MOSFET.

Comparison between N‒Channel and P‒Channel MOSFET

N‒channel MOSFET

1. It is costlier and some what difficult to produce than P‒channel MOSFET.

2. Since the hole mobility is nearly 2.5 times lower than the electron mobility, N‒channel MOSFET occupy less area than P‒channel MOSFET for same I_D rating.

3. The drain resistance is lower than the identical P‒channel MOSFET.

4. It has higher packaging density. Twice packing density than P‒channel MOSFET.

5. Almost three times faster than P‒channel MOSFET in switching applications.

6. Because of positively charged contaminants, the N‒channel MOSFET may turn ON prematurely.

P‒channel MOSFET

1. P‒channel enhancement MOSFET is easier and cheaper to produce than N‒channel MOSFET.

2. It occupies larger area than N‒channel MOSFET for same I_D rating.

3. The drain resistance is three times higher than that of identical N‒channel MOSFET.

4. Lower packaging density than N‒channel MOSFETs.

5. It is slower than N‒channel MOSFET.

6. It is not turn‒ON prematurely.
